Do not get married yet, because, unless you have studied marriage, you have no idea what you are getting into.
Read what is described in this harsh, but realistic, post by an admittedly jaded young man.
The trouble with his article is he doesn’t present the “other side.” But I conditionally agree with him. Unless you learn about:
- The potential downside of marriage, my advice is do not get married yet.
- The way marriage works, my advice is do not get married yet.
- The influences of gender-specific biology, my advice is do not get married yet.
- The demands of marriage, my advice is do not get married yet.
- The requirements to ensure success, my advice is do not get married yet.
- The actual reasons and benefits of marriage, my advice is do not get married yet.
Do not get married until you understand the potential downsides of marriage. But keep in mind the downsides are almost always due to:
- Selfishness
- No marriage education
- No premarital education
- Misunderstanding marriage
- Unreasonable expectations
- Lack of marriage preparation
- Lack of marriage planning
This article will not present the other side, nor the benefits of marriage. This article is a warning about marriage without proper marriage education, not a warning that should be read as condemnation of marriage. On the contrary, marriage is amazing when you know how to be married.
Marriage Is The Greatest Relationship Of All
Just like if you hopped into the pilot’s seat of a jet fighter, of which you should fully expect to crash, and you can fully expect to crash if you do not get marriage training before you get married. Waiting until after you are married is a very bad idea.
The absolute best way to prepare for marriage is to take one or more of the online video marriage courses from The Marriage Foundation (TMF).
- If you are not yet, or still, dating, read some of our dating blog posts.
- If you are engaged, take the “Premarital Counseling Course.”
And, of course, you should read Breaking The Cycle, which is the textbook used by all TMF-certified marriage counselors.
